Leadership

Dr. Michael & Lynette Dugal

Dr. Mike and Lynette (Bush) Dugal serve as the president of Beyond the Reef Theological Center. They are no strangers to the island community. Lynette is the daughter of Reverend David and Maxine Bush, missionaries and founders of Beyond the Reef. The Bush family faithfully served on Yakushima (Japan), Okinawa, Guam, Solomon Islands and Nauru (1958-1976). In 1977, Reverend Bush established Beyond the Reef Theological Center (Oregon) as a training center for island pastors. Missionary Memorial Church was established at the same time and soon became a home for Micronesians living in the Northwest.

Mike and Lynette met while attending bible college and married in 1979. In 1981, upon Mike’s graduation, they joined David and Maxine in Oregon to serve as missionaries to the various islands around the Pacific Rim. They left Beyond the Reef in 1985 as Mike pursued his studies to serve as a military chaplain. From 1987 to 2017, Mike served as an Army Chaplain. During his 30 years of decorated and faithful service, when allowed, he and Lynette returned to the annual Camp Meetings sponsored by Beyond the Reef in Aurora, OR, as guest speakers and support staff.

In 2017, upon his retirement from the Army, Chaplain (Colonel) Mike Dugal, PhD,  became the president of Beyond the Reef and moved the headquarters from Oregon to Hawaii. He and Lynette, proud parents of Denise and David, now live in Aiea, HI (Oahu) and continue to lead this outreach ministry around the Pacific Rim.

After 62 years of faithful ministry, the vision of Missionaries David and Maxine Bush remains an instrument for the Gospel of Jesus Christ to reach island communities in the Northwest, Micronesia, Nauru, and Hawaii. Beyond the Reef exists for the sole purpose of “Training Island Pastors to Lead Believers to Maturity in Christ.”
